Former ACB chief appointed as USA Cricket’s new CEO

In a new development for USA Cricket, Noor Mohammad Murad, the former chief of Afghanistan’s cricket board, has been appointed as the next CEO of USA Cricket, the board announced on Saturday.

USA Cricket formed a dedicated working group in April 2023 to conduct an extensive search for its next CEO, the USA Cricket said in a statement.

After careful consideration and interviews with a shortlist of six highly qualified candidates, the top three finalists were presented to the USA Cricket Board. Following thorough deliberations, Murad emerged as the chosen candidate, the statement added.

The statement said that during his tenure as CEO of the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) from 2012 to 2014, Murad played a pivotal role in the national team’s remarkable journey from the lower tiers of Associate Cricket to their triumphant qualification for the 2015 Cricket World Cup.

Under his leadership, the Afghanistan team received notable recognition, including the prestigious Laureus Spirit of Sport award. Moreover, the ACB achieved the ICC’s Best Overall Cricket Development and Best Junior Participation Initiative awards in 2014.

Apart from his contributions to the cricket world, Murad brings a diverse background to the table. He is a trained doctor from Kabul Medical University and has an extensive history of working with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA). Most recently, he served as the Head of the Adolescent and Youth Department.

USA Cricket expressed enthusiasm about the appointment and expects Murad to bring valuable insights and experience to his new role. Pending the receipt of his work visa, he will assume his responsibilities as CEO in due course.

It added that the cricket community eagerly awaits the contributions of Noor Mohammad Murad to the development and growth of cricket in the United States.
