Afghanistan’s T20 skipper Rashid Khan said on Thursday that the team is ready to take on Bangladesh in the two-match T20I series that gets underway on Friday.
Having rested for the last ODI against Bangladesh earlier this week, Rashid said: “As a team, the main focus is to get better each day,” adding that they were hoping for different conditions on a wicket that should favor spin bowling.
The opening match on Friday will be played in Sylhet, with Afghanistan starting as favorites after having won six of their previous nine matches.
Speaking to reporters on Thursday in Bangladesh, Rashid went on to say “it’s going to be a great contest and great game to watch.”
He said however that the team was hoping to put on an improved showing in the next two matches as it would be good practice for them ahead of the Asia Cup and the World Cup later this year.
“It’s preparation for us as a team for the World Cup… that will be our main focus,” he said, adding that they need to keep the momentum they have after beating Bangladesh 2-1 in the ODI series.
Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan meanwhile said his team was looking forward to taking on Afghanistan in T20s as “this is a new challenge for us. Afghanistan is definitely a very good team.”
The first T20I match on Friday will be followed by the second, and final game on Sunday in Sylhet.
