Afghanistan’s Under-19 cricket team put on a stirling performance on Monday in their first Youth ODI match against Bangladesh Under-19 in the UAE when they beat their opponents by a whopping 158 runs.
After winning the toss, Bangladesh sent Afghanistan in to bat first. The move worked in Afghanistan’s favor when the batters drove home 271/6 in their allotted 50 overs.
Sohail Khan was the star of the inning, scoring a century, while Suliman Arabzai (55) and Mohammad Haroon (43) supported Khan well, and drove the total runs to over 270.
The Afghan bowlers also showed their mettle when they bundled the visitors out for a dismal 113.
Yama Arab (4/29) and Faridoon Dawoodzai (3/32) shared 7 wickets between them while Nasir Hassan (2/20) and Kamran Hotak (1/14) returned with some tight bowling figures.
Sohail Khan was named player of the match for his unbeaten 100 off 113 runs.
Afghanistan Under-19s will meet Bangladesh Under-19s in the 2nd game of the two-match Youth ODI series on Wednesday, March 15 at the same venue in Sharjah.
