Five years after the Taliban returned to power, where is Afghanistan heading?
In this interview with Amu TV’s Lotfullah Najafizada, Richard Lindsay, the UK’s Special Envoy to Afghanistan, discusses the Taliban’s governance, women’s rights, terrorism, regional security, humanitarian aid and the prospects for international engagement.
Lindsay says the Taliban have taken Afghanistan in the “wrong direction” by excluding millions of Afghans from education, employment and public life, while arguing that the Taliban still have a choice to adopt a more inclusive system of governance.
He also addresses Britain’s policy toward the Taliban, recognition, diplomatic engagement and the UK’s humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan.
