Amir Khan Muttaqi, the Taliban’s foreign minister, has claimed that no armed opposition groups operate anywhere in the country and that the Taliban would not allow challenges to their rule.
Speaking at a religious school gathering, Muttaqi rejected reports of internal divisions within the Taliban and argued that there was no justification for opposing their government.
“There is security across Afghanistan,” Muttaqi said. “There is not a single inch of Afghanistan where opponents exist. This is the first time in four decades that God has granted such a system to Afghanistan.”
He also said the Taliban’s diplomatic and economic relations with the outside world were continuing to expand.
The remarks come despite repeated UN reports documenting the presence of armed groups in Afghanistan, including Daesh’s Afghanistan affiliate, known as ISIS-K.
United Nations monitoring reports have also cited attacks claimed by anti-Taliban groups, including the National Resistance Front and the Afghanistan Freedom Front, which say they continue to operate inside the country.
Taliban have consistently downplayed the capabilities of such groups and maintain that they have established nationwide security since returning to power in August 2021.
Muttaqi’s comments also come amid recent tensions in the northeastern province of Badakhshan, where local residents and Taliban forces have clashed over mining activities, according to local reports.
In a recent statement, the military wing of the Green Trend movement, an anti-Taliban group, claimed responsibility for an attack on a Taliban vehicle in Panjshir province. The claim could not be independently verified.
Taliban have not permitted political parties or opposition groups to operate openly since taking power. International governments and organizations have repeatedly urged the Taliban to establish a more inclusive political system, but Taliban officials have described their administration as representative and inclusive.
The Taliban rule remains unrecognized by any country, nearly four years after it returned to power following the collapse of the former government.
