The former home of Mullah Omar, the late founder of the Taliban, which is also a base for the Taliban’s suicide unit, was among the sites struck in Pakistani attacks overnight, sources familiar with the matter confirmed on Friday.
The property is about one kilometer from one of the residences of Hibatullah Akhundzada, the Taliban’s supreme leader, sources said.
One source said about 15 Taliban members were killed in Kandahar.
Other areas, including parts of Spin Boldak district near the border with Pakistan, were also hit, according to local accounts.
Taliban have not publicly commented on the reported strike on the Kandahar site.
Pakistan claimed that 133 Taliban members were killed in the overnight attacks. The Taliban, however, claimed the strikes caused no casualties.
The Taliban also claimed that 55 Pakistani soldiers were killed in their own cross-border attacks on Thursday night. Pakistani officials have not publicly responded to that assertion.
