The Taliban-run National Statistics and Information Authority announced that fees for Afghan citizens abroad to obtain national ID cards have been reduced. The process will be carried out in person and based on valid residency documents, the agency said.

According to the new rates, Afghans living in neighboring countries, Central Asia, India and Turkey can now obtain ID cards for $50, down from the previous fee of $200. For Afghans in Arab and African countries as well as Russia, the cost has been lowered to $70 from $200.

For Afghans residing in Europe, the United States, Canada and Australia, the new fee is set at $150, compared with $200 previously.

The agency stressed that the reduced fees apply only to applicants who present foreign residency documents in person.

Previously, Afghan citizens abroad could obtain ID cards through a remote process that cost $200.
