A local mountaineering team known as Diyar Sanai has successfully climbed the Alam mountain range in Ghazni province.
The Afghanistan National Olympic Committee said the team reached an altitude of about 3,300 meters (10,826 feet) in the Khwaja Omari district of Ghazni.
The committee said the climb was aimed at promoting mountaineering as a sport in the country and preparing athletes for future competitions.
Mountaineering has gained modest popularity in Afghanistan in recent years, particularly in central and northern provinces where high peaks draw both local and international climbers. Afghanistan is home to the Hindu Kush range, which includes Noshaq, the country’s highest peak at 7,492 meters (24,580 feet).
