Former security officer found dead in Kabul, sources say

His family located his body at the Kabul forensic medicine department nearly two weeks after his disappearance, the sources said.

The body of a former police special forces officer was discovered in Kabul two weeks after he disappeared, local sources told Amu.

The victim, identified as Abdul Wali Naimi, was originally from Panjshir province and had returned to Kabul from Iran on Aug. 14. He disappeared two days later.

His family located his body at the Kabul forensic medicine department nearly two weeks after his disappearance, the sources said.

“Two bullet wounds were visible on his head and neck. His left hand was broken, and his body bore signs of torture,” one source said. Photographs of the body reviewed by Amu showed injuries to his forehead and nose. The sources added that bruising on his wrists suggested his hands had been tied behind his back.

Naimi, who was married, is survived by four children.

Taliban have not commented on his death.

A six-month report by the human rights organization Rawadari found that extrajudicial killings in Taliban-controlled Afghanistan rose 30% in the first half of 2025 compared with the same period last year.

The killing comes as Iran and Pakistan have expelled more than 2 million Afghan migrants this year, including former government employees, security personnel, journalists and human rights activists. Many fear detention, torture or death upon return to Afghanistan.
