Mohammad Nabi, former captain of Afghanistan’s national cricket team, has donated one million Afghanis (approximately $14,000) to migrants recently deported from Iran, saying the aid was distributed through his charitable organization, the Nabi Charity Foundation.
“I visited Afghan returnees from Iran and distributed 1M afghanis via Nabi Charity Foundation,” Nabi said on X. “Families are exhausted and humiliated, returning with nothing.”
He called on Afghan businesses to step up and support “our people in their time of need.”
Nabi also urged Afghanistan’s neighboring countries to halt mistreatment of Afghan migrants. “I urge our neighbours to stop the mistreatment of Afghans,” he said.
The cricketer’s visit and donation come amid a growing wave of deportations from Iran, which has forcibly returned tens of thousands of Afghan nationals in recent weeks. Human rights organizations have expressed concern over reports of harsh conditions and abuses faced by returnees.
