More than 2,500 migrant families were expelled from Iran on Tuesday, July 8, according to data released by the Taliban-run refugees ministry.

The data reported by the Taliban-run Bakhtar News Agency shows that on the same day, 98 families were repatriated from Pakistan.

According to the figures, 53 families entered through the Torkham border crossing, and 45 crossed via Spin Boldak in southern Kandahar Province. In the west, 496 families returned through Pul-e-Abrisham in Nimroz Province, while 2,010 crossed through Islam Qala, a major entry point in Herat Province.

The latest wave of returns comes just days after similar figures showed that between July 4 and July 6, 14,973 Afghan families had been deported from both countries — 14,643 from Iran and 330 from Pakistan — during a broader crackdown on undocumented Afghan migrants.

The International Organization for Migration estimates that more than 450,000 Afghans were expelled from Iran since June 1, many detained without notice and transferred directly from detention centers to border crossings, including Islam Qala.

The expulsions have taken place ahead of the deadline announced by Iranian authorities for undocumented Afghans to leave the country. Pakistan, meanwhile, has continued its campaign of arrests and deportations of Afghan nationals — a policy that has drawn criticism from humanitarian groups and international organizations.
