Pakistan has released 47 Afghan citizens from various detention centers, the Taliban Ministry of Refugees and Repatriation said in a statement on Monday.
The individuals, who had been detained for lacking legal residency documents, returned to Afghanistan on Sunday.
According to the statement, the detainees had spent approximately 45 days in Pakistani prisons before their release.
This latest release brings the total number of Afghan citizens freed from Pakistani jails this month to more than 550, based on figures from the ministry.
Meanwhile, Afghan migrants in both Pakistan and Iran continue to report mistreatment by local authorities. Many have accused law enforcement agencies in both countries of harsh treatment and arbitrary detentions.
The releases come amid Pakistan’s ongoing crackdown on undocumented Afghan migrants. The government has set a March 31 deadline for Afghan nationals to leave the country voluntarily or face arrest and forced deportation.
