ISIS claims responsibility for deadly Kunduz bombing

KUNDUZ, Afghanistan — The Islamic State (ISIS) has claimed responsibility for the suicide bombing that struck outside a Kabul Bank branch in Kunduz on Tuesday morning, according to a statement from the group.

The group has claimed to have killed “hundreds”, including Taliban commanders in the attack.

The Taliban police command in Kunduz confirmed that the attack was a suicide bombing, stating that the assailant had explosives strapped to his body and detonated them near the bank.

Jumadin Khaksar, a Taliban police spokesperson in Kunduz, said that the blast killed five people, including both Taliban members and civilians, and injured seven others.

However, local sources dispute the official figures, saying that at least 25 people were killed and 30 others wounded.

The bombing occurred as a crowd, including Taliban personnel, had gathered to collect salaries at the bank branch in the city center.
