Islamuddin Amiri, the former captain of Afghanistan’s national football team, has announced his retirement from both international and club football.
In a statement on his Facebook page, Amiri said he had decided to step away from professional play after a two-decade career on the field.
“For 20 years, I have played football across the country,” he wrote.
Amiri, a well-known figure in Afghan football, said he plans to remain involved in the sport as a coach.
