The Taliban has set ablaze 45 musical instruments in the northeastern province of Badakhshan, according to Samiullah Soroush, a member of the Taliban’s provincial department of vice and virtue. Soroush noted that these instruments were collected from various districts within the province.
The Taliban also stated that no arrests were made while its forces were collecting the musical instruments.
Last week, the vice and virtue department in Sar-e Pul province reported that it had incinerated at least 100 musical instruments gathered from wedding parties and ceremonies.
Since taking over Afghanistan, the Taliban has banned the listening and playing of music throughout the country.
