KABUL, Afghanistan — The Taliban-led Ministry of Energy and Water on Thursday signed contracts worth $25 million for three solar electricity production projects with a private company.
Abdulatif Mansour, the Taliban minister for energy and water, announced during the signing ceremony that the projects will be implemented in the provinces of Farah, Uruzgan, and Paktika.
This comes amid growing concerns among citizens, particularly in Kabul, about persistent electricity shortages during the summer months.
Residents have reported receiving only eight hours of power daily, while facing increased electricity bills from Taliban-run institutions.
Many residents claim that the Taliban is not accurately calculating electricity expenses, leading to higher costs.
