Nearly 2,000 Afghan migrants deported by Iran, Pakistan in one day

KABUL, Afghanistan — Nearly 2,000 migrants were deported by Iran and Pakistan and returned to Afghanistan on Saturday, July 13, according to the Taliban-run Refugees Ministry.

In a statement, the ministry reported that 385 migrants were deported from Pakistan on Saturday. Of these, 193 returned through the Torkham crossing, while 192 came back via the Spin Boldak crossing.

Additionally, the statement noted that 1,569 migrants returned from Iran through the Silk Path in Nimroz province.

This mass deportation follows recent denials by Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Mumtaz Zahra Baloch, of reports claiming that Pakistan had halted the deportation of “undocumented” Afghan migrants at the request of the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees.
