Taliban has signed a $7.5 million contract with a Turkish company to extract gas from two new wells in northern Jawzjan province.
The wells, located in the Yateem Taq area of Jawzjan, will be drilled to a depth of 1,750 meters, according to the Taliban-run Ministry of Mines and Petroleum. The ministry announced the contract on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter.
Upon completion, the project is expected to yield 300,000 cubic meters of gas daily, with an estimated daily income of $60,000.
Previously, the Taliban signed a contract with a Chinese company for the extraction of seven oil wells in Jawzjan.
However, there are growing concerns over the lack of accountability and transparency within the Taliban’s institutions, particularly regarding the use of income from Afghanistan’s mineral and petroleum resources.
