Afghanistan’s cricket team faced a significant defeat against the West Indies, losing by 104 runs in their final group C match of the T20 World Cup at the Daren Sammy Cricket Ground.
After winning the toss, Afghanistan opted to bowl first. Nicholas Pooran’s explosive 98 off 53 deliveries, alongside Johnson Charles’ 43 off 27, powered the West Indies to a formidable total of 201 for five wickets.
Afghanistan struggled from the start, losing their top scorer, Rahmanullah Gurbaz, in the first over. Ibrahim Zadran, with 38 runs off 28 deliveries, and Azmatullah Omarzai, with 23 off 19, were the standout performers for Afghanistan. However, the team was bowled out for 114 runs in 17 overs, falling short of the target.
Despite the loss, Afghanistan has advanced to the Super Eight stage and is placed in Group A, alongside India, Australia, and Bangladesh. Afghanistan’s first match in the Super Eight is scheduled against India on June 20.
