The World Food Program (WFP) has reported that one-fourth of Afghanistan’s population goes to sleep hungry every evening.

As Eid al-Adha approaches, the WFP emphasized that while the holiday is traditionally a time of joy and celebration, for many in Afghanistan, it is just “another difficult day.”

The organization warned that over 12 million Afghans are uncertain about their next meal.

Afghanistan has been mired in a deep humanitarian and economic crisis since the Taliban seized control. Citizens have voiced criticism of the Taliban for failing to create job opportunities and improve living conditions.

The situation has been exacerbated by severe restrictions imposed on women and girls, leading international donors to suspend their development budgets. Consequently, humanitarian assistance to the country has also significantly declined.
