KABUL, Afghanistan — The Taliban-run meteorology department has issued a warning about the possibility of heavy rainfall and subsequent flooding in five of the country’s 34 provinces.

According to the statement, heavy rains, high winds, and flash floods are predicted in the provinces of Takhar, Kunduz, Badakhshan, Baghlan, and Samangan, as well as in the Salang area. The department estimated that rainfall could range between 15 to 25 millimeters in different areas.

These provinces have recently experienced fatal floods that left scores of people dead and wounded and destroyed hundreds of houses.
