Senior Taliban delegation to attend Raisi’s funeral

KABUL, Afghanistan — A senior Taliban delegation led by Taliban deputy chief minister Abdul Ghani Baradar left Kabul on Wednesday for Tehran to attend the funeral of Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi, who died in a helicopter crash.

The delegation also includes Taliban foreign minister Amir Khan Muttaqi, according to a statement issued by the Taliban’s Foreign Ministry.

The first round of the funeral for Raisi and seven others who died in the incident, including Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian, was held in Tabriz on Tuesday.

The bodies have been transported to Tehran for a funeral set to be held on Thursday morning. They will then be moved to Mashhad.

The crash of President Raisi’s helicopter and his accompanying delegation has elicited shocking reactions both regionally and internationally.
