Afghanistan Cricket Team kicks off World Cup journey

KABUL, Afghanistan — The Afghanistan national cricket team departed Kabul on Thursday for the UAE to begin their T20 World Cup journey, which will be hosted by the U.S.

Afghanistan Cricket Board said some players participating in the IPL will join the team in the UAE.

It added that those whose IPL matches are still ongoing will join their teammates in the West Indies.

“The early travel is for the purpose of the players getting familiar with the conditions and weather ahead of the World Cup,” ACB chief said.

The T20 World Cup is set to begin on June 1. Afghanistan will play its first match against Uganda on June 4. The national team will be led by Rashid Khan.
