Afghanistan: Two children killed in unexploded ordnance explosion in Paktia

Two children were killed and four others were wounded in an explosion caused by unexploded ordnance in the Jani Khel district of Paktia Province on Saturday, according to a statement from the Taliban.

The Taliban’s security command in Paktia reported that the explosion took place inside a house in the Jani Khel district.

The statement also noted that the wounded were transported to a hospital in the neighboring Khost province.

Unexploded ordnance continues to claim the lives of dozens of children across Afghanistan each year.

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has identified Afghanistan as one of the world’s most contaminated countries with landmines and unexploded ordnance.
