UNAMA retracts post on Taliban permitting female students in medical institutes

The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) withdrew a post originally welcoming the Taliban’s decision to allow female students to enroll in medical institutes.

Initially published on Thursday, Feb. 21, the post was retracted just hours after its release.

Originally, UNAMA had posted an article expressing approval of the Taliban’s decision this week, but later opted to delete the post.

Taliban-run news agency, BNA, also deleted a post on the same matter when reporting about it on Wednesday, Feb. 20. However, Taliban deputy foreign minister Abbas Stanekzai confirmed the matter later in the day in a social media post.
