Landslide in eastern Afghanistan kills 25 amid heavy snowfall

NURISTAN, Afghanistan — A landslide triggered by heavy snowfall claimed at least 25 lives and injured several others on Sunday night, Feb. 18, in the village of Mokani in Nurgaram, eastern Afghanistan, according to local Taliban officials.

Reuters footage depicted villagers carrying a body and homes buried under snow from the landslide.

Quoted by Reuters, Sami al-Haq Bayan, Taliban’s head of information and culture for Nuristan province, said that emergency teams were deployed to rescue individuals trapped under the debris.

Bayan also reported that over 25 houses were destroyed in the disaster.
