Afghanistan: Mass grave discovered in Khost Province

KHOST, Afghanistan — A mass grave, believed to be about 45 years old and containing around 100 bodies, has been discovered in Khost province in southeastern Afghanistan, local Taliban officials confirmed.

The grave was unearthed during the excavation of a water dam near Sheikh Zayed University in Khost city. Residents reported that the remains include the bodies of women.

In September 2022, a separate mass grave containing 21 bodies was found in the Spin Boldak district of Kandahar province, near the border with Pakistan.

Human Rights Watch has previously documented the discovery of over 100 bodies in a canal in the region.
