Japan Airlines plane catches fire at Tokyo’s Haneda Airport

A Japan Airlines plane with at least 400 passengers on board caught fire Tuesday evening at Tokyo’s Haneda Airport, Japanese media reported.

Television footage showed a large fire on the runway. The aircraft was JAL flight 516, arriving from Shin-Chitose Airport in Hokkaido, Japan’s northern island.

JAL confirmed that all approximately 400 passengers and crew safely evacuated the aircraft. Details about injuries were not immediately available.

Authorities are investigating whether the flight collided with a Japan Coast Guard plane after landing, according to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism.

Flight operations at Haneda Airport were temporarily suspended as emergency crews responded to the fire.
