Matiullah Wesa, a prominent education activist and the founder of Pen Path, has been set free following an approximately seven-month period of captivity under the Taliban, as confirmed by his brother, Ataullah Wesa.

According to Ataullah Wesa, Matiullah was released on Thursday afternoon.

The Taliban had apprehended Wesa late in March, and subsequently, they linked his arrest to a series of gatherings he had organized to promote girls’ education.
