At least 80 female students and teachers were poisoned at two schools in Sancharak district in the northern province of Sar-e-Pul, said sources from the province.
Sources said that 88 female students and teachers were poisoned in two schools in Sancharak district over the past 24 hours.
The sources said that 58 female students from a primary school, four teachers and one resident of the area were poisoned in “Kabud Ab” school in Sancharak district on Saturday and were taken to a health center for treatment.
Due to their serious condition, more than 15 of them, almost all of the schoolgirls, were taken a public hospital in the center of the province, sources said, adding that they were in stable condition on Sunday.
Sources also said that this morning, Sunday, 14th of June, 21 female students and 4 male teachers in “Faiz Abad” primary school in Kalan area of Sancharak district were also poisoned and 10 of them are under treatment.
Sources added that for the poisoned students, there were symptoms of diarrhea, runny nose, shortness of breath and dizziness, which worsens the health condition of many young girls.
Taliban officials in the province confirmed the incident and said that unknown people had sprayed poisonous substances in the classrooms of primary students, as a result of which 88 female students and teachers were poisoned.
Last year, during the protests of women and girls against the restrictions of the Taliban, a number of female students were poisoned at Kabul University, but the poisoning of primary school girls is unprecedented in the country.
