Sources: Man found dead under unclear circumstances in eastern Afghanistan

The victim, identified as Bashir Khan, was found dead in an area under the second police district of Jalalabad.

A man was killed under unclear circumstances in eastern Afghanistan’s Nangarhar province, local sources told Amu TV on Thursday.

The victim, identified as Bashir Khan, was found dead in an area under the second police district of Jalalabad, the provincial capital, according to the sources.

Relatives said they were informed of his death after being contacted by a neighborhood representative and a local intermediary, who told them his body was at a provincial hospital.

Family members said the killing occurred on Friday, April 24. However, when they approached local Taliban authorities, they were given differing accounts of how he died.

According to the family, Taliban initially said security forces had carried out a raid in the area and came under fire from Bashir Khan and others, after which he was shot and killed.

In another account, relatives said officials told them that a joint security and intelligence checkpoint had been set up and that Bashir Khan was shot after failing to stop.

Family members said Taliban local authorities later gave a third explanation, claiming he had been involved in a burglary and was killed during the incident.

Relatives disputed the accounts, saying they found his body in “very poor condition” at the hospital, with signs they described as possible torture and gunshot wounds.

They also said Taliban warned them against speaking publicly about the case or pursuing further investigation.

In messages sent to Amu TV, the family called for a transparent investigation and justice.

Taliban have not publicly commented on the case.
