Two members of Pakistan’s federal police were killed in a shooting attack in the northwestern province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, according to local media reports and police officials.

The officers were targeted while shopping in a local market in the Kurram Garhi area, within the jurisdiction of the Cantonment police station in Bannu district. Gunmen riding a motorcycle opened fire and fled the scene, police said.

The victims were identified as Rakhniyaz and Rahmanullah, both assigned to a federal police unit, according to officials cited by Dawn.

Security forces cordoned off the area and launched a search operation to track down the attackers. No group has claimed responsibility for the killings.

In a separate incident late Saturday, militants destroyed a police outpost in the Shamozai area using explosives, police said. The building, which had been unoccupied since 2022, was severely damaged, but no casualties were reported.

The attacks come amid ongoing security challenges in parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where militant violence has persisted in recent years.
