The International Cricket Council has announced a record prize fund for the 2026 Women’s T20 World Cup, underscoring the rapid growth of the women’s game as the tournament prepares to expand.
The total prize pool for the competition, set to be held in England and Wales, will rise to $8.76 million, a 10 percent increase from the 2024 edition. The expansion to 12 teams — up from 10 — marks the first time the tournament will feature that many participants.
The winning team will receive $2.34 million, while the runner-up will earn $1.17 million. Each losing semifinalist will take home $675,000, and teams will receive $31,154 for every group-stage victory. All participating teams are guaranteed a minimum of $247,500.
The increase in prize money reflects broader efforts by the ICC to invest in women’s cricket and expand its global reach.
“The growth of women’s cricket continues to accelerate,” said Sanjog Gupta, the ICC’s chief executive, adding that the expanded tournament and higher prize fund were intended to build “a stronger, more competitive global game.”
The announcement comes 60 days before the start of the tournament, which will open on June 12 with England facing Sri Lanka at Edgbaston in Birmingham.
Alongside the prize announcement, the ICC has launched a trophy tour across Europe to promote the event. The tour begins in London at Lord’s Cricket Ground, which will host the final, before traveling to countries including the Netherlands, Ireland and Scotland, and then to host cities across England.
The event is expected to draw significant global attention, with cricket officials projecting increased attendance and viewership, as well as a broader cultural impact as women’s sports continue to gain prominence worldwide.
