Trump pauses strikes on Iran energy targets after talks

President Donald Trump said the United States will pause planned military strikes on Iran’s energy infrastructure for five days, citing what he described as “productive” talks aimed at resolving tensions in the Middle East.

In a statement on Truth Social, Trump said discussions between US and Iranian officials over the past two days had been “constructive” and would continue in the coming days.

“We have had very good and productive conversations regarding a complete and total resolution of our hostilities in the Middle East,” Trump said.

He added that he had instructed the War Department to postpone any attacks on Iranian power plants and energy facilities during the five-day period, making the pause conditional on the outcome of ongoing negotiations.

The announcement comes after Trump had earlier set a deadline for Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz to international shipping, with that deadline expiring later Monday.

It was not immediately clear how the pause in military action would affect that demand or broader US strategy in the region.

The move signals a potential shift toward diplomacy following weeks of US-Israel attacks on Iran and escalating tensions in the region.
