The Afghanistan Cricket Board said the planned white-ball series between Afghanistan and Sri Lanka scheduled to begin March 13 in the United Arab Emirates has been postponed due to logistical challenges linked to the regional situation.
In a statement, the Afghanistan Cricket Board said flight constraints and other operational difficulties made it impossible to proceed with the series as planned.
The series, which would have been the first time Afghanistan hosted Sri Lanka, was scheduled to feature six matches — three Twenty20 internationals and three one-day internationals.
The T20 matches were planned for March 13, 15 and 17 at Sharjah Cricket Stadium, followed by three one-day internationals on March 20, 22 and 25 at Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
ACB said preparations had been completed after receiving approval from the Emirates Cricket Board, but developments in early March created travel and logistical challenges affecting the teams and event planning.
The board said it held consultations with stakeholders, including the Emirates Cricket Board and venue officials, before deciding to postpone the series after conditions failed to improve.
The decision was made in coordination with Sri Lanka Cricket, which agreed to reschedule the matches.
ACB said the preferred venue for the series remains the United Arab Emirates and that new dates are expected to be announced later, likely in the final quarter of 2026.
The board said it remains committed to staging the series at the earliest suitable opportunity and maintaining its cricketing partnership with Sri Lanka.
