Four members of Afghanistan’s national boxing team have missed the opportunity to compete in the Youth Olympic qualifying tournament.
The competition, which determines qualification for the Youth Olympic Games, is currently being held in Thailand.
Mojtaba Haidari in the 50-kilogram division, Tamim Faqiri in the 55-kilogram division, Ahmad Malekzada in the 65-kilogram division and Ferdaws Najibi in the 80-kilogram division had been scheduled to compete.
According to sources, a lack of funding to send Afghanistan’s national boxing team to Thailand prevented the athletes from participating in the tournament.
The sports authority under the Taliban administration has not yet commented on the matter.
However, a four-member team of Afghan athletes and a coach based abroad, including Khodadad Haidarian and Sakina Haidarian, are taking part in the competition.
