The third meeting of the private sector working group under the United Nations-led Doha Process was held in Kabul, the Taliban foreign ministry said on Tuesday.

The ministry said in a statement that the meeting was hosted by the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) at a hotel in the capital and brought together representatives of Taliban’s foreign affairs, finance, industry and commerce, economy, labour and social affairs ministries, as well as the Taliban-run central bank.

The meeting was also attended by UNAMA officials, representatives of relevant UN agencies, international and regional organizations, ambassadors and experts from several countries, the ministry said.

According to the statement, discussions were held in two main sessions focusing on economic growth and inclusion, and on coordination and transparency. Participants emphasized the need for greater coordination and exchanged views on existing challenges and possible solutions.

UNAMA has not publicly commented on the meeting.

Kabul last week also hosted the fourth meeting of the Doha Process working group on counter-narcotics, attended by United Nations representatives.

The Doha Process, launched by the United Nations in 2023, provides a structured platform for engagement between the international community and the Taliban. In the absence of formal recognition of the Taliban administration, the talks have focused on practical cooperation on humanitarian assistance, economic issues and counter-narcotics efforts.

The meetings follow a recent visit to Kabul by Rosemary DiCarlo, the UN under-secretary-general for political and peacebuilding affairs, who held talks with senior Taliban officials including their foreign minister Amir Khan Muttaqi and the Taliban interior minister, Sirajuddin Haqqani.
