Afghanistan’s U19 cricket team remain firmly in contention for a semi-final place at the ICC U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup as the Super Six stage enters its decisive phase.

Afghanistan are among six teams still competing for the remaining three semi-final spots, with Australia the only side to have already secured qualification for the last four.

In Super Six Group 1, Afghanistan’s qualification fate remains in their own hands. Given the current points and net run-rate scenarios, a victory over Ireland in their final group match on Jan. 30 would be enough to send Afghanistan through to the semi-finals.

Australia top the group after maintaining a perfect record, while Sri Lanka moved into second place following a win over South Africa, keeping the qualification race open behind the leaders.

Afghanistan have impressed with consistent performances during the tournament and now face a decisive encounter against Ireland, with the semi-finals within reach for the first time in this edition.

Elsewhere, Super Six Group 2 is led by India and England, who have both strengthened their chances with key victories. Pakistan remain in contention but will need a positive result against India and favourable outcomes elsewhere, with net run rate likely to prove crucial.

Bangladesh, New Zealand and Zimbabwe have been eliminated from semi-final contention.

With the Super Six stage nearing its conclusion, every remaining match carries high stakes as teams battle for a place in the knockout rounds, setting up a tense finish to the youth tournament.
