Six people, including several children, were killed and two others injured in a traffic accident in Helmand, Taliban police said on Thursday.
The crash occurred around 8 a.m. in the Sangilan area of the second police district of Lashkar Gah city, the center of Helmand, on the highway linking Herat and Kandahar, according to a statement from the Taliban police command in Helmand.
The statement said a cargo truck collided with a passenger vehicle due to driver negligence. The wounded and the bodies of the victims were taken to Bost provincial hospital, and an investigation into the incident is under way, it added.
Taliban police urged drivers to observe traffic regulations and exercise caution to prevent similar accidents.
The identities of the victims have not been released.
Deadly traffic accidents are common across Afghanistan, often blamed on poor road infrastructure, lack of safety measures and reckless driving.
