At least seven people were killed and two others seriously injured in a traffic accident in Afghanistan’s northeastern Badakhshan province, Taliban provincial police said on Tuesday.
The crash occurred around 2:00 a.m. in the Warfak area of Maimai district, where a vehicle veered off the main road and overturned, the police command said.
The injured were taken to a medical centre in the province, it added. The cause of the accident was not immediately clear.
Road accidents are common in Afghanistan due to poor infrastructure, lack of traffic regulation and hazardous driving conditions, particularly in remote and mountainous areas.
