Pakistani police have detained four Afghan nationals during a large-scale search and security operation in Islamabad, recovering weapons, ammunition and narcotics, local media reported on Monday.

The operation was carried out in several areas of the capital, including Sangjani, and resulted in the detention of 41 suspects, a police official said on condition of anonymity.

Police searched 177 individuals, 66 houses, 35 motorcycles and 15 vehicles during the operation, the official said. Twelve motorcycles and four vehicles lacking proper documentation were seized for further investigation.

Authorities said weapons, ammunition and drugs were recovered during the searches, while all suspects, including the four Afghan nationals, were taken into custody for questioning.

Islamabad police chief Kazim Naqvi said security forces would continue operations against what he described as criminal elements to maintain law and order in the federal capital, adding that public safety remained a top priority.

Pakistani media did not provide further details on the identities of the detainees from Afghanistan.
