Afghan MMA fighter makes history with gold medal at Islamic Solidarity Games

Yusuf Jahangir, a Muay Thai fighter representing Afghanistan, made history on Friday by winning the country’s first-ever gold medal at the Islamic Solidarity Games.

Competing in the 75-kilogram weight class, Jahangir faced off against Mehmet Ali of Turkey in the final bout. After three intense rounds, he emerged victorious with a narrow 29-28 decision.

Jahangir had advanced to the finals by defeating opponents from Saudi Arabia and Indonesia earlier in the tournament, which brings together athletes from Muslim-majority countries in a show of sporting unity.

His gold medal marks a milestone for Afghan martial arts and adds a rare moment of triumph for the country’s sports community amid ongoing challenges at home.
