An explosion early Wednesday morning struck a mosque in Nangarhar Province, injuring the local imam and destroying the building, according to local sources.
The blast occurred around 4 a.m. in the Third Block of Canal 29 area in Ghani Khel district, a local source told Amu. The explosion left the mosque heavily damaged, with the copies of the Holy Quran and other religious texts reportedly burned in the blast.
The cause of the explosion remains unclear, and no group has claimed responsibility. So far, the Taliban authorities had not issued a statement regarding the incident.
Residents say the mosque was completely destroyed. The extent of the imam’s injuries was not immediately known.
