Shamshad TV, one of Afghanistan’s major private broadcasters, resumed operations on Sunday afternoon after a brief suspension, the station said in a statement.
Broadcasts were halted Friday night for unspecified reasons. In Sunday’s statement, Shamshad said its leadership had engaged with “relevant institutions” to reach a “mutual understanding” that allowed programming to restart.
No further details were provided about the cause of the suspension or the nature of the discussions with authorities.
Shamshad TV, which airs content primarily in Pashto, is among several Afghan media outlets operating under increasing restrictions since the Taliban’s return to power in 2021. Many broadcasters face challenges related to censorship, funding, and regulatory pressure.
