Afghanistan cricketer Ibrahim Zadran has been fined 15 percent of his match fee and assigned one demerit point for breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct during the third one-day international against Bangladesh in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday.
The International Cricket Council said Zadran breached Article 2.2, which prohibits the “abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment or fixtures and fittings during an International Match.” The incident occurred during the 37th over of Afghanistan’s innings, when Zadran, returning to the pavilion after being dismissed, struck some equipment near the dressing rooms with his bat.
Because Zadran admitted the offense and accepted the proposed sanction from match referee Graeme La Brooy, no formal hearing was required. The on-field umpires—Adrian Holdstock and Ahmad Durrani—along with third umpire Akbar Ali and fourth umpire Izatullah Safi, had levied the charge.
This marks Zadran’s first offense in a 24‑month period. Under ICC rules, Level 1 breaches can attract penalties ranging from a reprimand to forfeiture of up to 50 percent of the match fee, plus one or two demerit points.
If a player accumulates four or more demerit points within 24 months, the points convert into suspension points, potentially leading to bans from international matches.
