Amu TV and Deutsche Welle (DW) have signed a new agreement to broadcast DW’s programs on Amu TV’s satellite channel in Afghanistan.
The partnership, announced in a joint statement, is aimed at providing the Afghan people with access to free and uncensored programming.
Based on the agreement, on Oct. 1, Amu TV started rebroadcasting DW’s flagship program Aashti on its free-to-air satellite channel.
Amu TV will also share DW’s news, analysis and multimedia content across its website and social media platforms.
The partnership combines DW’s international reporting experience with Amu TV’s reach in Afghanistan, aiming to provide millions of Afghans with reliable, independent and diverse programming in Farsi and Pashto.
“Afghans today face unprecedented challenges to access information,” said Lotfullah Najafizada, Amu TV’s CEO. “This partnership will ensure audiences continue to receive accurate, independent, and high-quality journalism at a time when it is needed most.”
Guido Baumhauer, DW’s managing director for distribution, marketing and technology, said the collaboration underscores DW’s commitment to media freedom. “We are proud to partner with Amu TV to reach Afghan audiences with our trusted reporting and analysis,” he said.
Both outlets said the cooperation reflects a shared commitment to democracy, human rights and cultural diversity, and aims to broaden the flow of information available to Afghans under Taliban restrictions.
DW is Germany’s international broadcaster and has provided independent news and analysis in Dari and Pashto for more than two decades. Amu TV, launched in 2022, is an Afghan satellite broadcaster and digital platform targeting audiences inside Afghanistan and in the diaspora.
The program airs Wednesdays at 6:30 and 7:30 p.m. Kabul time.
