Pakistan’s army said that 17 members of Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan, or TTP, whom it referred to as “India-backed militants,” were killed in a security operation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

The operation, described as intelligence-based, took place overnight Sept. 26–27 in the Lakki Marwat district, according to an army statement.

The military said weapons and ammunition were recovered and claimed those killed were actively involved in attacks on security forces, law enforcement agencies and civilians.

A clearance operation in the area was continuing, the statement added.

Pakistani media quoted the army as saying security forces remain determined to eliminate the threat of terrorism.

Attacks by militant groups have surged in Pakistan since the Taliban returned to power in neighboring Afghanistan in 2021. The TTP and the Balochistan Liberation Army are among the most active groups, frequently claiming responsibility for deadly attacks.
