Taliban have detained several tailors who made women’s clothing in Kandahar, local sources told Amu on Monday, though they did not specify how many were arrested.

The sources said the arrests took place Sunday, Sept. 21, in the Rangrezano, Dana and Aino Mina areas of the provincial capital.

They added that the move has left dozens of people unemployed and sparked strong reactions from residents.

According to the sources, the Taliban’s Ministry for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice in Kandahar has also threatened additional restrictions on women in the province.

Taliban have not commented publicly on the detentions.

Women in Kandahar already face strict limitations on access to recreational spaces, restaurants, sports, travel, employment and education.
