Naser Zaheri, a veteran journalist and photographer in northern Afghanistan’s Balkh province, has died after a long illness.
Friends and relatives said Zaheri, who passed away Monday night, had been suffering from a chronic illness and was also struggling with economic hardship.
The Afghanistan Journalists’ Union expressed condolences in a statement, praising Zaheri’s contributions to the local media sector. The group said he worked with several local outlets in Balkh over the years and provided “valuable services and contributions” to journalism in the province.
