Radio Nasim halts broadcasts in Bamiyan and Daikundi

Radio Nasim has announced it is halting broadcasts in the central provinces of Bamiyan and Daikundi after 13 years of operation.

In a statement posted on its Facebook page, the outlet said it had decided to end programming in the two provinces.

Radio Nasim’s broadcasts in Bamiyan and Daikundi were suspended two years ago but resumed shortly afterward.

The announcement comes a week after three of its journalists in Daikundi were released from Taliban detention a day after being arrested by the group’s intelligence service. They included Sultan Ali Jawadi, the station’s director, and reporters Saifullah Rezayi and Mojtaba Qasemi.

Taliban have recently intensified arrests of journalists and media workers.

Jawadi was first detained in October 2023 and released in April 2024 after serving six months in prison. He had been sentenced to one year on charges of “propaganda against the Taliban regime.”

Radio Nasim itself was shut down by the Taliban in mid-2023 and allowed to resume operations in March this year after a five-month closure.
